Peaches & Cheese

peaches, sunflower seeds, goat cheese, basil and champagne vinaigrette

I am a repetitive eater.  I find something delicious, and I eat it everyday for a week.  (Unless we're talking about cottage cheese, which I ate every day for an entire year of high school.)

When I tasted SweetGreen's incredible July salad, I was hooked.  It's the basil.  You think you're stabbing lettuce and then BAM.  Basil.

I have made it 4 days in a row.  Huzzah for salad hacks.

Happy Birthday, America.

Happy Independence Day!

I've spent the weekend laughing with friends, drinking lemonade, singing Darius Rucker, eating pie for breakfast, wearing braids and living in sundresses.

I'm very proud to be an American girl.  Happy Birthday America.  235 years young.

Wishing you a firework filled, beer drinking, flag waving Monday.

Summer Solstice

Happy Summer Solstice!  It is the longest day of sunlight all year.  And the first official day of summer.

I suggest you celebrate with a margarita, some park sitting, or an outdoor run.

Or you could fight the crowds at Stonehenge.  But you do have to worry: will you still fit into last year’s druid smock?

Is it Summer Yet?

No, not anywhere close.

But how gorgeous is this painting by Inslee Haynes?  She is insanely talented, and a fellow DCer!

Her work is breathtaking.  And she does commissions

The weather has finally cooled down to 80 and it feels lovely out. But I feel like people are jumping the gun around here. Yesterday, a mild Tuesday in August, Starbucks was playing “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” and the grocery store had Halloween candy on display. Before Labor Day!

I love Christmas and Halloween, but what happened to living in the now? I, too, want it to be fall so I can wear boots and cute jackets. But I also want to go float down a river, and drink lemonade and wear flip flops. I’m still clinging to summer for a few more precious weeks.
