The Kindness of Strangers

A pleasant reminder to be the kind of person you want to meet.

(Especially if this busy holiday weekend brings out the cranky airport passengers, the aggressive highway drivers, and the stealers of all the mashed potatoes.)

"Guess why I smile a lot? Uh. Cause it's worth it."

Marcel the Shell is back.  He puts my 1991 stop-start animation videos to shame.  What a cutie.

"Oh God.  I can smell his face."

Tuesday Tiramisu

(Victoria Pearson for Martha Stewart via Blue Pool Road)

Don't you just want to hold a dinner party on this dock?  We could drink mediocre wine and avoid the mosquitoes.

Meloncholie

Your Tuesday Pick-Me-Up: Sarah Illenberger's print Meloncholie. (Get it?)

Goodbye April showers, hello Summer fruit.

*Sorry for posting this, A.  I know how you dislike Tasteless Melon of the Dark. :)

Beach Baby: Queens, 1897

For Morgan's bachelorette beach weekend, I told her I was going to wear an 1800's bathing smock like these.  You wouldn't have to worry about putting on sunscreen, or having abs.

It would be tremendously hot, but then again - you'd only be at the beach until the ladies retired to play bridge and the men retired to the smoking lounge...

Tuesday Tiramisu

I will bet you $20* that you will end up barking at your computer.  Or at least mouthing at your computer.

*I will not give you $20.  Even if you "Gav Gav" at your computer.  Or, if you "Bup Bup". The currency exchange would be too much.  Let's just call it even.

Tuesday Tiramisu

We used to slide down my cousins stairs in a sleeping bag.  Somehow this seems so much more intricate...

Tuesday Tiramisu

(Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

No matter your political affiliation, how can you not find this photograph adorable?  The Newseum has a wonderful exhibit of photos by White House photographers capturing President's being themselves.  I watched the presentation twice - it was the best part!

Tuesday Tiramisu

I don't know what is sweeter - that sign, or an elephant on a string.

(I can't find a photo credit - do you know where it's from?)

Tuesday Tiramisu

Do you know what I love?  That bus drivers wave at each other when they pass on the road.  They may not know each other but their shared profession is enough to form camaraderie.

It's such a simple, sweet gesture.  Happy Tuesday.

Tuesday Tiramisu

How cool is The Boneyard in Arizona?  It is 4 square miles housing over 4,000 airplanes.  They have at least one of every time of armed plane since WWII!

More reasons to love Google Earth.

He ate it.

“Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.”

Shake it off

If this doesn't make you smile, you are not human.  The dog's name is Andy.  Doesn't he looks like an Andy?

Key to the City

I love the gesture of presenting important people with a key to the city (though, really, what city has gates anymore?  Don’t say the Emerald City.)  Artist James Gulliver Hancock's keys are a clever play on the idea.

I completely agree with Danville, California presenting Captain Sully (of Airplane in the Hudson fame) with the key to city.  But are you sure you want the Kardashian clan to have a key to Beverly Hills?  They might run amok!  Oh, wait...
