Weekend Project

I'm so excited for spring.  Tulips, peonies, camellias, warmth.  It's almost here.

I freshened up some old vases with a little paint.  I used Delta Air-Dry PermEnamel glass conditioner, and Delta Air-Dry PermEnamel paint in Ultra White.  I had it left over from my cake stand makeover, where I wanted something that was dishwasher safe.  (FYI: It's dishwasher, microwave and oven safe, but not food safe.)  You could also use spray paint, or acrylics.

It was cathartic to paint, sip coffee and listen to Ira Glass.  Just in time for spring.

DIY: Notebooks

If I walk into Paper Source, there is no way I'm leaving empty handed. It is a dangerous endeavor.

I buy lovely notebooks, but then hate to ruin them by writing in them. I feel like beautiful notebooks deserve something better than my grocery lists. But my grocery lists need somewhere to live, and my profound thoughts aren't frequent enough to warrant multiple journals.

Solution: make regular notebooks chic. And then I won't needn't worry about ruining them.

Spray Paint and Puffy Pens (or how to craft like a 9 year old?)

I miss having a creative outlet in my life.  It’s too easy to fall into a “Work - Dinner - Gym? - TV” routine every night.  So, I may have gone at bit overboard when Soy and I spent 2 hours in Michael’s crafts….

Last year, we stacked gourds and mini pumpkins on the mantle and it was lovely…but not cheap.  And there’s nothing fun about disposing of decaying gourds.  They shrivel and look horrid, and your neighbors wonder.

Wanting some budget friendly décor, I found these atrocious pumpkins.

Inspired by YHL, I gave them a little bit of texture.  (While watching 30 Rock, of course.  I am quickly developing a legitimate TV addiction.)

The non-traditional Halloween colors (silver and bronze) took several coats to begin looking even.  This meant multiple trips to our tiny deck porch, and one comment from a neighbor asking if I did windows.  Do you want me to spray paint your windows, sir?

I agree with Sherry, the puffy paint is not as cheesy as it sounds.

Happy Halloween!
