Have you ever used FreeCycle? It's a website where you can give and get stuff...for free. So often, I throw out perfectly good household items (or drag them haphazardly to goodwill - emphasis on the dragging, very little upper body strength). I'd much rather they get put to use in someone else's life.
For my first FreeCycle experiment, I put an old fishbowl out there. (RIP Beyonce the Snail, you were gone too soon.) Within 2 hours, I had a response from someone with a 5 year old, pining for a fish.
After arranging the location where we'd meet, I had the following conversation:
Me: I'll be the girl holding the fish bowl.
Stranger: If I had a nickel for every time I heard that....I'd have a nickel.
If you're in the market for heavy furniture, shrubbery, firewood or boxes for moving - this is your place.
Now, if someone will only give me a free road bike. Fingers crossed.
(Don't worry, family. I met them in the daytime, in a populated area that was not my home. And I washed the fish bowl. Stranger Danger averted.)
